PERSONAL PROJECT UPDATE:
Pop up quote of the day
- Attendance
- Discuss quote of the day.
- Communication Activity:
- Hand out the white paper and markers
- Have them follow your directions and try (if possible) to not let them ask questions..
- Tell them to draw a circle
- Then a triangle within the circle
- Next a square in the corner
- Finally, write “your name” on the paper
- Have them hold up papers and look around to see what everyone else looks likes. Hopefully they will be very different. Ask for any feedback/reflection. What was the quality of communication/instruction like?
- Communication – start power point and show video “It’s not about the nail” Discuss video.
- Communication Activity:
- Take plastic bag of baggies ☺ outside to the tennis court. Explain activity outside.
- You will be partnered up based on the number on your bag for round one, and the shape for round 2.
- Sit back to back with partner. You will both have a chance to lead and follow in each round. To start the leader lays all the supplies down in front of them to build a shape. Then describes it to their partner and their partner must use their own supplies to copy the design – without seeing it! After you have finished reveal to each other to see if your designs match. Discuss the type of communication given – how effective it is – and then switch roles.

Lesson Two: Motivation

- Start Motivation PowerPoint
- Show first video and ask them to think about what motivates them during the video.
- Discuss: is this video motivating – why or why not
- Activity: What motivates you?
- It is important to know what motivates you when you are searching out careers as it can influence your talents and enjoyment of particular careers. It is also important to know what motivates others so that you can “work well with others” – in school, work, relationships…LIFE!
- Read the descriptions for the 5 categories of motivation. Have them think about which one resonates with them the most. Afterwards have them from groups at tables based on these categories.
- Answer the brainstorm questions together on a piece of poster paper/dry erase board as a group and then share with the class.
- Discuss – why is it important to know what motivates others? Prompt them to think about the case of advertising if it doesn’t come up…
- Show recent Colin Kaepernick Nike ad – discuss if that motivates people?
- Hand out journals and complete journal reflection.
Lesson Three: Learning Styles

- GSlides: Ask students what they already know about learning styles. What are they and what do they mean? Does anyone already know their learning style? Is that a good or bad thing?
- Have students take a learning style test.
- Lets sum up the different learning styles.
- Project: In partners (or on your own,) create a video that clearly demonstrates all three learning styles as discussed in class. Your video also must include at least two different activities that show your audience the three learning styles.
Lesson Four: Multiple Intelligences
- How smart are you? How can we define "smart"? Are there any other ways of being "smart"? Can intelligence change?

Lesson Five: Beliefs and Values

- Values vs Beliefs vs Attitudes
- Handout: Core Beliefs Inventory and Values-Whats Important to me?
- After completion, get into groups of 3-4 with pen and paper- this will be you planning area and rough draft. Split your paper into 4 sections:
- Make a list of beliefs your group holds.
- Where do most of our beliefs stem from?
- how do you know if your beliefs are true? Does it matter?
- Do you believe that your beliefs govern the way you behave, communicate or interact with people?
- Belief Pennant Assignment. In the same groups as above, students will use drawings, sketches and symbols to create a pennant that will illustrate their core beliefs. These will be on a 11x17 sheet of paper provided. Be sure to use all the space provided on your pennant. On the back side of your pennant, write a paragraph explaining why you chose the pictures you did. Be specific for each item. Finally, share your pennant in 2 minutes presentation, be sure to explain each of the items. You may read your paragraph out loud.
- Make sure all students have completed their Values, Whats important to me? sheet. Start watching Coach Carter.
- While watching students are expected to fill out the Values Depicted worksheet where they identify 3 values they saw demonstrated in the movie, provide an explanation of how it is demonstrated and explain why that particular value is or is not important to them.
Lesson Six: Relationships
- Get into group of 2-4
- Discuss # 1: Write some ideas on the board
- Write topics on the board: Types of Relationships, Valuable Aspects of these Relationships.

- Complete part 1 with your group.
- Complete Part 2/ 3 alone.
- #1 What are some of relationships that one may experience during a lifetime, such as friend, relative, significant other, teacher, priest, etc.?
- #2 Brainstorm the various types of relationships that people their age may have experienced since childhood. (For example, these may include student, sister, hockey team player, best friend.)
- #3 What is the most valuable aspect of each of these relationships, such as trustworthy, fun or playful, builds confidence, close and nurturing, stimulating intellectually, socially rewarding, personally expanding, etc…?

Lesson Seven: Digital Footprint
- Discussion: appearances - How would you dress for an interview? How would you act?
- Have any one ever Google'd themselves? Or did a search for themselves on social media from a non-connected account? Any volunteers? What shows up? How do you feel about that?
- Complete the Digital Footprint Webquest worksheet with a partner.
- Individually have students complete How Connected to Technology am I? worksheet.
- Have a classroom discussion about their answers.
Lesson Eight: Failure and Success

- Success is defined by Merriam-Webster as favorable or desired outcome or the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. Our culture encourages us to strive for success; but how do we know once we have reached it? Do we just stop moving forward if we feel that we have met our goals?

- Then watch the video: Don’t fear failure, unlock your inner creativity, and say yes.
- Finally, answer the following questions based on the above article and videos.
- Create a Bucket List of your 50 top things to do before you "kick the bucket"
Lesson Nine: Skills, Attributes, Strengths and Desires
- Create a graphic organizer that states your skills, attributes and strengths based off of the GSlides.

Lesson Ten: Final Project
- The Who am I Project. Students will create a Self Reflection Portfolio using all of the pieces that were covered in this unit.
PERSONAL PROJECT UPDATE:
- Be sure you are recording your process in your Process Journal in MyBluePrint.ca
- You should be nearing the completion of your Investigation and planning Stages
- Sometime in the 2nd half of November, you must meet with your supervising teacher for meeting #2 (be sure to bring your Academic Honesty Form with you)
