American Revolution Textbook: Democracy and the Modern World, Chapter Five
Day One: 1. Students fill out a title page for this unit. Our Statement of Inquiry is "It is important to understand the significant of innovation and revolution to create change." Guiding Questions- Factual: What is the effect of revolutions on society and how does society respond? Conceptual: To what extent were the revolutions of the 1700 and 1800's revolutionary? Debatable: Without the Industrial Revolution, no other revolutions would have taken place. Learner Profiles: Risk Takers and Principled On the back side is : I know... I wonder... On one side write down three things you already know about the American Revolution. On the other side, write down three things that you wonder about the American Revolution. We will return to this at the end of the Amer Rev for students to start answering the guiding questions and revisit their I know/I wonder questions. The aim is that the wonder questions can now be answered. 2. Handout and complete the 13 Colonies Map. Refer to page 163 in the textbook. 3. Handout AR & BNA note sheet. Students will read chapter 5 in their textbook and fill out the sheet as they read. 4. Start the AR PPt. Students continue to fill out their note sheet. Stop part way through to review New France Under British Rule.
Day Two: 1. Review three things that you have learned about the AR from yesterday with a partner and share one of those ideas with the class. 2. Continue the AR PPt (see previous day) and note sheet. 3. Review 13 Colonies Map. 4. Watch Crash Course video on Taxes and Smuggling.
Day Three: 1. Share with a partner three things that you learned about the AR from yesterday and share out one of those ideas. 2. Introduce The Patriot movie assignment. 3. Go over reasons why the AR was and was not revolutionary ( last slide of ppt).
Day Four: 1. Watch the second Crash Course video on Who Won the American Revolution. 2. Prior to starting the movie, ask students when they want their questions due. 3. Stop movie about 10 minutes before the end of class to give them time to ask questions and complete the day one section.
Day Five: 1. Give students about 10 minutes to finished the day one section of their questions. 2. Watch about 50 minutes more of the movie. 3. Give students the rest of the time to work on day two questions/section and the AR Review place mat.
Day Six: 1. Continue The Patriot movie for about . 2. Give students about 10 minutes to work on their questions and day three section.
Day Seven: 1. Finish the movie. 2. Give students a few more minutes to work on their questions, which are due.
