Oral Presentations
This will be a mini unit building ultimately to students delivering a speech to the class.
1. Students will start by researching about two First Nations groups (one from BC and one from the rest of Canada), the Metis and the Inuit. These notes are to be in point form. Websites have been given as starting point for the Metis and Inuit but students have to find and record down their websites for their First Nations groups. Work sheet. This should take about 1.5-2 classes
2. Next students will follow the presentation learn some back ground about oral story telling traditions within FN groups. (estimate 1 class)
3. Students will then be introduced to their Oral Story Telling assignment. They will be creating their own creation story to be shared amongst some peers in small groups in the class.
4. Introduce the speech portion of the mini unit: Speech Breakdown. Show students what makes a good speech (and second option). Watch examples of some good and bad speeches. Video ideas one.
